Beatriz Muciño Reyes

From WikiTacos, the taco encyclopedia · Taquero

Beatriz Muciño Reyes was the founder of Tacos Beatriz, the Mexico City guisado taquería often described as the oldest in the capital.

Life and work

According to Chilango, Muciño arrived in Mexico City from the State of Mexico in 1887. She began selling quesadillas, enchiladas and tacos at the doorway of her home on República de El Salvador street, then moved through several premises in the Centro Histórico; the business is usually dated to 1907. She worked at the taquería for about forty years and retired in 1945, leaving it to her nephew Alejandrino Reyes.

Her descendants moved the business to Londres street in the Zona Rosa in 1971. The nickname Beatricita, attributed to writer Carlos Monsiváis, is still used for the restaurant, and the family's fourth generation keeps her guisado recipes.
