Taquería Orinoco is a Monterrey-born taco chain, founded in 2015, that brought northern trompo, beef and chicharrón tacos to Mexico City.

History

Orinoco began in 2015 on Río Orinoco 101 in the Del Valle area of San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, and took its name from that street. Héctor Alfredo López Ramírez is listed as a co-founder, and the recipes were created by Monterrey chef Jesús "Chuy" Villarreal, who also founded Pinto Bar and Cara de Vaca.

In 2017 the brand opened its first Mexico City branch on Avenida Insurgentes Sur in Roma, near the Álvaro Obregón Metrobús stop. It has since become one of the capital's best-known late-night taquerías and a stop for visiting celebrities. By 2026 it had six branches in Mexico City and three in the Monterrey area.

The menu rests on three proteins: trompo, the Monterrey term for al pastor-style pork; res, or beef; and chicharrón norteño. They can be ordered on flour or corn tortillas, as tostadas, or as costras with a crust of griddled cheese. Sides include papas aplastadas, smashed potatoes. Branches offer several unusual salsas, among them chile piquín with garlic and lime, a creamy green salsa and a tzatziki-style sauce.
